The objects she creates explore memories and feelings of family and home life, it is this which links all of her pieces and what inspires and motivates her." The beautiful work of Faith Adelaide makes up our 2009 Autumn Showcase, which has been very well received. "I design and make bags, scarves, textile wall hangings and accessories for galleries, shops and private commissions. I use both machine and hand embroidery to embellish my pieces of work. Each of my larger pieces is adorned with hundreds of beads and buttons, with meters of lace and ribbon. My work is described as an amalgamation of opulence, beauty, and a vintage treasure-trove. Each piece I make is inspired by the vintage materials and haberdashery I use, often I find a whole piece can be based upon a collection of lace and buttons, or a worn scrap of fabric. As a textile artist I am concerned with the concept of mend and make do, this principle interests me greatly and has always been a theme running through my work and my home life. I learnt from an early age to collect together interesting notions and be creative with them. I love the idea of a patchwork quilt made from old clothes and interesting scraps of fabric, each one with its own story. I like to see each of my pieces as a patchwork, where each element that I use has its own piece of history. It is this link to the past which links all of my pieces and what inspires and motivates me."
